Clothing is a part of culture. While in some Middle Eastern countries women are not allowed to show more than 10% of their skin, Russian women may dress quite provocatively to a foreign eye.

       If you are a Russian girl you have to follow a certain dress code for any occasion. Wearing rumpled or stained clothes is unacceptable for a Russian woman. However, they go far beyond that. They say that Russian women in Europe and the U.S. are always recognizable: high heels, make-up, jewelry, nice-looking hair and sexy, almost provocative clothing. It may seem that Russians have the following philosophy on this matter: If you have a nice body, why hide it? However, there are several reasons for this fashion inclinations in Russia:

  1. Some psychologists believe that the main cause is that a wide choice of goods and clothes is still a novelty in Russia. In Soviet times Russian ladies could not wear anything special. It was not the matter of money, but the matter of deficiency. Stores were simply stuffed with the same clothes and shoes. People that wanted to buy something different from what their neighbors wore would have to go abroad, which was out of the question. So after the Soviet collapse, goods flooded Russia causing some kind of cultural shock. Now Russian women are not only after provocative clothing, but after dressing in an attractive and bright manner.

  2. Clothes and shoes come to Russia mostly from Turkey. Turkey is the country where Russian people can easily travel to (they buy visa when they come there) and where they actually spend most of their vacations. Russian tradespeople go to Turkey and buy lots of cheap clothes and shoes of very good quality. That is why while in Europe the trendsetters are Prada and Dolce Gabana, in Russian fashion is dictated by oriental and colorful Turkey and China.

  3. While in other countries women are feministic, Russian women are more traditional. They do not believe that a man can fall in love with a girl's brain or personality. At least they know that first a girl needs to be noticed by a man. While women in other countries do not do much to attract men physically, Russian women believe that a woman should look like a woman, so it involves cosmetics, ear-rings, high-heeled shoes and slightly provocative clothing.

  Of course in their chaise after chic and glamor Russian girls may forget about elegance and style, so it may seem like there is no dress code for a Russian girl. However, there are also financial reasons, as Prada would be inexcusably expensive for a Russian wallet.
