Sometimes it seems that dating sites have announced a war to fight each other for every potential client. A dating site may use different tricks to attract more visitors and keep its database grow with new people. While new, recently formed dating sites are more likely to use dirty tricks, some online dating leaders still do not disdain to use any means either. Before joining a dating site, read this article about online scam techniques that they use to get you.
Stealing Profiles
Some sites steal pictures and even whole profiles from sites of their competitors in order to increase their database with fake girls and boys and attract more clients. It is quite common that any publicly displayed pictures may end up on different dating sites, on sites that offer sexual acquaintances and sexual services. Sometimes even a well-written witty profile can be completely copied too. If your picture or whole profile was posted on a dating site without your consent, there are two things you can do:
Write to the site owner and ask to remove the picture.
If the site owner doesn't reply, you can report about this online scam to his/her hosting provider and explain the situation. Usually hosting providers do now want any trouble with law, and the problem can be easily solved this way. If it isn't, there is nothing else to do but prosecute the site.
Automatically Generated Ads and Spam
Recently if you visit a dating site, you may see an automatically generated ad pop up in the corner of the screen. It usually appears as someone's profile or a picture of a person from your city. How does it work? The script they run on the site is programmed to see your IP address and let an ad appear with the name of your city in it. When you click the ad and join the site, of course, you will never find this person there.
In addition to that, in order to encourage you to visit the site, a dating site webmaster may circulate a large number of spam letters and profile notifications where beautiful sexy but fake girls invite you to chat with them online. Never click any links in such E-mails which may be part of a serious online scam. It is one thing if they are from actual dating sites that want to attract you with these fake girls to be their potential client. But it is another thing if the link contains some malicious script that may damage your computer or steal important information.
Free Dating Sites
Remember: if something is too good, it cannot be free, or it is just another online scam. A dating site may offer you free membership but later it will try to impose additional charges and fees for anything you do. It is really annoying when they put restrictions on sending or replying to letters, posting pictures and profile descriptions, which of course disappear as soon as you pay their fee.
Fake Dating Sites
There is a large number of sham sites which are also fighting for their place in the sun. Yes, some sites may be absolutely fake. Their profiles are fake, their girls are fake, the communication is fake. What does a dating site like this actually do? It is usually a translation site. It hires the so-called “writers” - fake girls - who will encourage you to write them while you are spending lots of money for the translation service. These fake girls will never give you their E-mail or any other contact information. They will use any excuse to not speak English to you (either they don't know it, or just began to study it), and they will complain that you do not write often enough.
When choosing a dating site, try to be picky. I believe that many men fall a victim of scamming dating sites and scamming girls. As I see it, the problem with most of them is that they are ready to believe anything when they see a pretty face in the picture. They are afraid to ask questions and be disappointed. If you suspect that you are being scammed, simply drop me a line on this site and express your concern. I hope that my experience with dating sites will help prevent online scam and will be helpful to someone else.
